With Darron & Susan (Suzie) (ID: 890) (DPG: Day 8)
Commending Church: Bethel Christian Fellowship.
Just days after celebrating their wedding with family and friends in the USA, Darron and Suzie found themselves in a very different setting: serving children with special needs in the heart of Guatemala.
When Wanda, the wife of the Hope for Home Country Director, shared that a missionary needed to return to the U.S., Darron and Suzie felt a prompting they couldn’t ignore. “We felt God asking us to answer the call,” they shared. And they did.
This wasn’t Suzie’s first time here—she had previously served at this same ministry from 2017 to 2018 before moving on to Hope for Home’s work in Liberia. But returning after seven years was no easy homecoming.
“It was emotional and rough,” Suzie admits. “Some of the children I was close to have passed away. The stories of the new ones are heartbreaking. But seeing the growth of those still here is humbling and amazing.”
Now married, the couple is serving together—Suzie reconnecting with children and staff, and Darron using his hands to repair, rebuild, and construct new hope on the compound. From maintenance projects to assisting the construction team, he’s found fresh energy and vision—even drawing comparisons to the building work they’ve been part of in Liberia.
But their time in Guatemala wasn’t without trial. Between July 8 and 31, the country was shaken by over 1,800 earthquakes and tremors. Entire towns were affected—lives lost, homes destroyed, roads blocked by landslides, and power and water disrupted. One HFH staff member spent the night in a shelter and was unable to return to her home. Many others slept in the streets, unsure if their houses would still be standing.
Yet even in the midst of crisis, the work continues. Darron helped reroof a walkway at a ministry camp run by Graham and Betty (ID 590), from New Zealand. Whether building structures or relationships, Darron and Suzie are living out their faith with boots on the ground.
Will We Answer When the Call Comes?
Darron and Suzie didn’t wait until life was settled or until they felt fully prepared. They simply said yes.
Their story is a living testimony that mission doesn’t wait for convenience—it calls for obedience.
So what about us?
🔹 Is God prompting you to pray more boldly?
🔹 To give more generously?
🔹 To go—across the globe or across your street?
🔹 To carry His love into broken and forgotten places?
The need is real. The stories are raw. The harvest is ready.
🛐 Pray for Darron and Suzie as they serve in this fragile time window.
💸 Give to support ministries like Hope for Home and others like it.
✋ Go if you’re called—and be willing even if you’re unsure.
📣 Share their story to awaken others to the needs of the world.
Don’t wait for perfect conditions. Let obedience lead the way.
Will you be the one who says, “Here I am, Lord—send me”?
