Introduction.

Romania's orphanage system once held thousands of abandoned children, many placed there simply because their families had nowhere to turn for help. Twenty-five years on, far fewer children live in orphanages, but the underlying need has not gone away: without support, mothers in crisis still face the impossible choice of giving up a child they love into State care.

The Family Centre exists to make sure that choice doesn't have to be made. Operating as an accredited Christian social service, audited by the Romanian government but funded entirely mostly by supporters, the Centre works alongside vulnerable families before crisis turns into abandonment. Rather than replacing parents, the team's approach is to equip them: through free daycare, social work advocacy, a mothers' support group, cooking classes, practical and medical assistance, and a supported living programme for families needing more intensive help.

The Centre is now led day to day by a dedicated Romanian team, several of whom have served for over two decades, with prayer and Christian discipleship woven into daily life alongside the practical care on offer.

Aims.

Families in crisis are supported so children do not have to be abandoned.

Parents are equipped with practical skills and knowledge many never had modelled for them.

Vulnerable mothers and children have a safe, consistent place to turn to.

Local Romanian staff are equipped and resourced to lead the work long-term.

Families and professionals encounter the message of Christ through practical care and resources such as the Long Story Short evangelistic series, now translated into Romanian.
