Overview
Margie first visited Romania in 1999, ten years after the revolution and the discovery of thousands of abandoned children in state orphanages. Confronted with babies still being abandoned, she prayed, “What can I do, God?”
That prayer led to the founding of The Family Centre - a Christian social service supporting vulnerable families so children don’t have to be abandoned. The Centre provides practical help and spiritual discipleship, creating a place of healing and hope.
Twenty-five years on, The Family Centre is led by a dedicated Romanian team. Margie continues to serve in leadership support, governance, training, encouragement, and sharing the vision internationally.
What Margie’s Week Looks Like
Margie works primarily with vulnerable families, alongside Romanian leaders and staff at The Family Centre.
Her ministry includes strengthening governance and strategic planning, encouraging and equipping staff, mentoring leaders, and building relationships with parents and children connected to the Centre.
In 2026, Margie is responding to a renewed sense of call to focus fully on The Family Centre and will return to Romania for 3½ months from March. During this time, she will:
Strengthen governance and strategic planning
Encourage and equip staff
Build relationships with parents and children
Introduce the Long Story Short evangelistic series (currently being translated into Romanian)
Her work supports local churches and Christian leaders by strengthening families, preventing child abandonment, and providing both practical care and spiritual discipleship within the community.
About the Ministry
The ministry of The Family Centre exists so children do not have to be abandoned. By supporting families in crisis with practical assistance and Christian discipleship, the Centre helps break cycles of vulnerability and brings hope where there has often been despair.
One of the ongoing priorities is the translation and completion of new training modules and the Long Story Short evangelistic series, helping families and professionals encounter the message of Christ in their own language and context.
