Overview

Nelson, Rachel and Lani serve in Mexico through YWAM Mazatlán, combining media, discipleship, and medical outreach to equip missionaries and reach communities with the Gospel.

What our week looks like

Nelson, Rachel and Lani serve vulnerable communities in Mazatlán and remote areas across Mexico, while also equipping and discipling missionaries to be sent to the nations.

Nelson leads the media and marketing team, training and discipling missionaries to communicate effectively through storytelling, content creation, and strategy. He also leads Bible studies through a surf ministry, creating space for meaningful conversations about faith with local young people.

Rachel is involved in leading the ships and medical ministry, helping organise medical brigades both locally and in remote communities, as well as supporting outreach on board the ship. She is also developing women’s health initiatives, including prenatal education to support expecting mothers.

Their weeks are varied but centred around discipleship, outreach, leadership, and collaboration with churches and local leaders. Through media, training, and practical care, they support communities where access to healthcare, resources, and spiritual guidance can be limited.

Their approach is holistic, combining the message of the Gospel with tangible care and equipping others to continue the work in their own communities.

One young man they met through the surf ministry began asking deeper questions about life and faith. Over time, he chose to follow Jesus, joined a Discipleship Training School, and later participated in outreach in Brazil. He has now returned and is helping lead the same surf ministry, reaching others in his community.
