Kirsty serves with Beyond Ourselves Zambia, helping lead initiatives that provide quality education across Zambia.
What her week looks like
Kirsty leads the education team within Beyond Ourselves Zambia, working alongside a team of local staff and international team members based in other countries.
Her role varies from week to week. A significant part of her work involves managing the training of teachers in the Jolly Phonics English Literacy Programme at a national scale. This includes planning and coordinating a team of trainers who are working across regions to equip local teachers.
She also works closely with the Ministry of Education to ensure the programme and curriculum are aligned. At times, her role includes budgeting and managing the financial aspects of the education team’s activities.
Through this work, Beyond Ourselves is supporting both the Ministry of Education and teachers, with the goal of expanding literacy access across the country. This has the potential to bring long-term impact by helping ensure every child, regardless of their location or circumstances, has the opportunity to learn to read.
