Hidden but Not Forgotten: Believers in Somalia

Somalia — a nation of around 16 million people in East Africa — continues to face deep suffering. Decades of conflict have left its economy shattered and its people in desperate need. Many have died through violence, famine, and disease. Somalia has one of the world’s highest infant mortality rates, and countless others have fled their homeland seeking refuge and hope.

In this overwhelmingly Islamic and clan-based society, following Jesus comes at a great cost. Believers face intense persecution, rejection, and even death. Open Doors reported that in just one year, 23 Somali Christians were killed for their faith. Yet, despite fear and danger, the light of Christ is not extinguished. Somali believers continue to gather quietly in homes, praying, worshipping, and sharing the gospel in secret.

Let’s pray for these courageous followers of Jesus — that their faith would remain steadfast and that God’s presence would comfort and protect them.

Pray also that many Somalis, both within the nation and among the diaspora across Africa, Europe, and beyond, would encounter the love and truth of Christ.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
— John 1:5
